I was so busy thinking about my boyfriend being romantic that I forgot about myself. How selfish of me??!! I really had to stop and think...When was the last time I did something romantic and sweet for him? Honestly, I drew a blank. Had I truly forgotten that men are not some unemotional alien creature, that men need love and romance too?
As I sat in the misery and horror of realizing I may not have been the best girlfriend as of late, I came up with a master plan! My boyfriend and I were both off from work so I raced to the nearest grocery store and sent him this text message: Hey babes , be at my house at 1pm. Dress comfortably, bring sunglasses and be sure to have an appetite :) Love you!
I then went to work in the kitchen. I whipped up some curry chicken, mixed veggies, mashed potatoes and some delicious chocolate caramel dipped strawberries (tutorial below). I pulled out a picnic basket and added the food, a blanket, sparkling cider, some fresh fruit, massage oil and utensils.
I initially wanted to go to have a picnic at the beach but decided I wanted to take him somewhere we've never been before. I consulted with my trusty friend yelp and he suggested Founders park in Palos Verdes.
All I can say is the scenery is amazing! Not only do you have a full view of the ocean from your picnic spot but if you look far enough you can also see Catalina island.
We ate, talked, joked and then I pulled out the oil and gave him a hand massage. Afterward, we laid back and stared at the sky. It really felt like I was floating in the clouds.
On the way home I asked him what did he think of my surprise date. He replied, "I loved it. for a moment I really felt like everything paused and it was just me and you ." Awww, so worth it!
At that point we agreed to no more dinner at a restaurant or movies type of dates. Getting out into nature is much more refreshing and relaxing.
What are some of the things you do to keep things romantic in your relationship?
In case your interested, here's a quick and easy tutorial for the strawberries. They turned out delicious, I made half chocolate caramel and the other half just chocolate. Make sure you let them get room temp before eating!
