Dee Eye Why (DIY): Dresser Rehab

I needed a TV stand and decided that I wanted a mirrored one UNTIL I saw the prices, they ranged from $200 and up! For a cheapskate like myself, that's a no no....so once again, I decided to make my own. After some quick Internet research, I started my job and I love, love, love the results!

Supplies: Dresser $30 (thrift store), mirrors $3 (Dollar tree), Grout $10 (home Depot), Paint $19 (home depot), Glue $3 (home depot).

Total Cost: $65, winning!!! lol

Step One: Use a screwdriver to remove any hardware from your dresser. Wipe down with a wet cloth and allow to dry. Since I'm lazy i usually skip sanding and priming and get right into painting. For this dresser, i used Glidden Door & Trim Paint in Bright White. Allow to dry over night.

Step Two: Place a mirror between two pieces of plastic bag, covering the mirror completely. Use a hammer to tap the mirror until it breaks. Take your liquid Nails and glue each individual piece to the dresser. Be careful so that you don't cut yourself!!

Here's how my dresser looked after I finished all of the gluing. Allow to dry for 24 hours.

Step Three: Using a thin plastic card, apply grout to the entire surface. Make sure to fill in all of the holes and crevices. Allow to dry for 2-3 hours. Take a wet sponge and gently scrub the semi dry grout from the front of the mirror pieces. Wipe dry with a paper towel. Allow to dry for 24 hours before reattaching the hardware.

The hardware was black and tarnished so I used silver Rub n' Buff to give it some shine. I bought it from a long time ago but Michael's sales it for about $6. It a small tube but a little goes a loooooong way. Just put on some gloves and apply it all over your hardware. Allow to dry overnight.

While it was time consuming, it was easy and I think it was so worth it! What do you think?? Are you up to try out this Dee Eye why (DIY)??

Stay tuned,
Eb
